The centre of the village near Road End has changed little in the last 100 years.
The road originally ended near the King William IV pub hence "Road End". Subsequently what was called Main Road became known as Chew Valley Road and extended onto the Clarence Hotel where it meets Manchester Road ( formerly Horsforth Road)

A rare view of Oak View Cottages near Scott's mill. Used as offices for the old Bockin mill. Knocked down around early 1970s.The mill is actually called Oak View Mills but to many from the 40s onwards was known as Bockin Mill indeed my family would tell people they lived at Bockin!
In fact the name came to the fore when Courtaulds bought the mill in about 1934. Their Head office was at Bockin in Essex and somehow the name came into general use. Todays the business run by Scotts continues to flourish. |
